Welcome to edition three of THE VORTEX VOICE, a weekly compendium of all things Rugby.
This week the big winners of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens in Krakow, Poland were Kenya Women and Portugal Men. This two-day super scintillating tournament continues to exceed expectations, and both Kenya and Portugal were worthy champions.
The Sevens tournaments carry on around the globe as the teams build towards the finals in Los Angeles this August. For more information go to www.worldrugby.com.
The Womens Six Nations Tournament continue this week with Italy hosting France, and England hosting Scotland in the old rivalry. This week’s results saw England batter Ireland 49-5, and France doing the same to Wales at 42-12.
The Lit7s camp in San Diego was a resounding success this last weekend. Set at the Olympic training centre, it was hosted by some famous Olympians such as Carlin Isles, Perry Baker, Naya Tapper, Kelly Griffin and coach JK Andersen.
During the camp they set up a panel with a Q and A and to discuss their experiences. It was to help participants understand how it takes mental fortitude to overcome adversity and become a winner. They pushed that, with discipline, and the help of others, they became greater than they ever thought possible.
Their creed and advice was that younger players need to be selfless, never letting their single ego be bigger than what they can accomplish as a team. The sevens is a more exciting alternative to the slowly dying 15, and the foundation of future rugby, nationally and Internationally.
The plan of future camps is to build out the sevens game in the USA with premier coaching in order to get scouted. They can become a showcase of raw talent where both professionals and amateurs can work together.
And last, but not least, we want to shout out to the Pacific 4 series coming up soon from 2nd to 24th May with the defending champions Canada, Australia, USA and New Zealand. The first game will be on May 2nd between the USA and Canada at CPKC stadium in Kansas City, USA. Closely followed on May 10th with Australia v New Zealand at McDonald Stadium in Newcastle Australia. Go and see one of these fabulous games if you’re in the area.
